| Las Vegas, NV - 5/7/2007 - The Desert Pines Golf Club often referred to as the “Pinehurst” of Las Vegas and recipient of the Golf Digest recognition as “One of the Best New Courses” is under-going extensive work on its greens and is currently closed with an anticipated reopening in June. The greens were initially patterned after those at Augusta National and have experienced some condition challenges in the past. “We’re making a significant investment in this property to bring it back to being one of the finest courses in Las Vegas, “said Jim Anderson, General Manager, Desert Pines Golf Club. “We will commit over a million dollars to making improvements and return these greens to a level where they can compliment the excellent conditions of the rest of the course, providing our guests with an overall, outstanding golf experience.” Agronomists from all across the country were consulted on this project and Walters Golf weighed their input and advice and made a difficult financial decision to close the course until the greens were just right. Designed by Dye Designs International the greens have that “Dye-abolical” layout and with new soil, irrigation and enhanced contouring, they are expected to once again be a true test of a golfer’s putting ability and an enjoyable component of the Desert Pines experience. An experience that transports golfers from the hustle and bustle of the Vegas casinos to the sandhills of the Carolinas with over 4,000 mature pine trees lining the fairways. During work on the greens the Desert Pines Practice Center and Duffer’s Grill will remain open. The Practice Center is the city’s only two-tiered, climate controlled facility featuring automatic ball return, so golfers need not bend over to tee up each new ball. Lit for nighttime practice is offers 58 covered hitting stations with target greens patterned after some of the most famous par-3’s in America. Duffer’s Grill is open for breakfast and lunch all week and offers daily specials. It has complete banquet facilities for a sit down dinner of up to 150, with a banquet room that divides to create two separate areas. Desert Pines Golf Club is a premium daily-fee course owned and operated by Walters Golf, which also owns and operates Royal Links Golf Club, Bali Hai Golf Club, Cili Restaurant and Las Vegas Golf Getaways that can also book unaccompanied guest play at the private Stallion Mountain Country Club.
